Climate change and GMOs
Hey guys Alesha here, check out this new post, I know you’ll will like it!!!!
Today, I am going to discuss “Climate Change” and “GMOs” so
keep on reading.
"Climate change is the change in the weather pattern and the increase in the earths average temperature and this is caused by the increase in green house gases. This is know as global warming or the heating up of the earths atmosphere." (Takepart)

Fun Fact!
Did you know that GM produce were designed to resist pest
and harsh environmental conditions? Well, if you didn’t, now you know. So
therefore, places where non-GMO crops could not have grown or exist, they now
do, but only GM seeds. For more details please check out this link GMOs Genetically Modified To Be More Resistant To Disease.
Anyhow, due to climate change, GMOs will increase because plants are one of our major food source, e.g. vegetative crops. These crops are said to be resilient. Crop resilience is how
the plant resist being affected due to the changing environment. So therefore,
if crop resilience is low, they would be easily destroyed by climate change. This
would result in a decrease in food security, a raise in agricultural produce
and not enough to feed a population. Which would further to importation, high
importation bills would negatively affect the economic growth aspect of a country.
These are mostly common with non-GMO seeds.
However, times have changed and scientist are advance and knowledgeable
and was able to produce a seed like no other. "A seed that can withstand harsh
climatic conditions like, drought, excessive water and little too no water." (Genetic Engineering for Tolerance to Climate Change Related Traits) Also, the emergence of pest and disease which can harm crops. These
seeds are known as GM seed, they can inhabit and grow in any conditions hence
they can withstand climate change. Just think about it, you don’t find it to be
amazing?
Look at it at my point of view, the basis of GMOs is basically making
plants and animals “stuff” possible which was impossible like larger crops,
various varieties and larger yields just to name a few. These “stuff” or plants
can grow anytime of the season and be unbothered. I would say it’s the best
because unlike those plastic cabbage that is being produced and selling in
markets, these are safer and currently it is the only and fastest way of improvements
in crops.

Here are some good benefits of crop resilience due to GMOs:
- · Large crop yields which survived changes in climatic conditions.
- · A decrease in importation of agricultural goods.
- · An increase in export of local goods.
- · A surplus in economic growth rate.
- · The ability of a country to achieve food security.
